Costume renting and many charity events in costume on weekends

The amounts of costumes being rented from me has been picking up lately. Partially this could be due to my advertising in the home ads, as well as becoming better known by word of mouth and getting referrers from companies where I refer other people to if I don't have a costume that people are looking for.

This coming Saturday, I will be in my Spider-Man costume at N1 City near the Mug & Bean. N1 City is right next to the N1 highway in the Cape Town area, in the greater suburb of Goodwood. I am booked for the same kind of event until and including 19 August 2006. For me that means busy Saturdays, meeting lots of people, posing for photos, getting into odd situations when changing in and out of costume, networking with people that I meet and possibly a boost in business from all of that. Most likely my 120 business cards will not be enough until the 19th.

On 5 August, the costume party of the German Carnival Matieka is also coming up. Lately, I just did not have much time to actually think about that and what costume to wear for the event. The last couple of years, I have tried superhero costumes, I might use a Star Wars costume this year.

Non-profit event at Planet Fitness gym

On Saturday, I took part as staff at a non-profit charity event. My primary purpose there was to show up as a costumed character to entertain the people there a bit and sometimes help out with handing out prizes. Several people were cycling (spinning) for eight hours and they had to be entertained and motivated throughout the day.

Overall, I showed up twice as Spider-Man. Staying too long or showing up too many times would reduce the effect. Several of my business cards at the registratino desk were picked up. I also managed to get some photos, but the mirrors and sunlight caused some lighting issues. Pictures should be up on my costume renting website.

The adults needed more entertainment, than the children. The entire event was to collect money for disabled children and cancer awareness. Two of the people present are also going to try and break the 72 hours world record in spinning. Another organisation present was run by children and it was an organisation that arranges wheelchairs for disabled children. Chaeli was present in a motorised wheelchair. Her sisters run that organisation. Please see The Chaeli Campaign for more details about this.

Geyser flood

Yesterday was lots of fun when I had to replace the heating element of the geyser, since that shorted out the entire circuit for the yard. Opening the taps fully doesn't empty the entire geyser. As a result of that, I got a nice flood to deal with. Lots of things got wet, and I tried to fill the buckets as the water was flowing.

In the morning I bought new tyres for my car with costs me 1300 Rand (ZAR). I did not want to get the cheapest tyres. Now the car feels like a different car in terms of handling and ease of steering. The old tyres were under the minimum permissable profile height (1cm), so this was long overdue.
